reliability and validity Flashcards
face validity
test’s content related to what the test is supposed to measure- related to diagnosis?
criterion validity
the extent to which the test scores correlate with another direct and independent measure of what test is supposed to measure- gold standard
concurrent validity
compares test with an external valid yardstick at the same time
incremental validity
is this test superior to another test in approaching true validity
cross-validity
after establishing criterion validity for one sample it maintains criterion validity when applied to another sample
predictive validity
can the diagnosis be used to accurately predict outcome or other patient related events
convergent validity
measures expected to be correlated are indeed found to be associated
Divergent validity
measures discriminate successfully between other measures of unrelated constructs
construct validity
the extent to which the scores on a test are in accordance with one’s theory about what is being tested AND in terms of future consequences
relies on both convergent and divergent validity being established
test-retest reliability
high correlation between scores on same test on different occasions
alternate form reliability
two forms of same test can be used
split-half reliability
correlation coefficient is calculated between person’s scores on two comparable halves of the test
Cronbach’s alpha -internal consistency
inter-rater reliability
high correlation of results with two or more raters Intraclass Correlation Coefficient >.7 acceptable
intra-rater reliability
level of agreement between assessments made by two or more assessors of same material presented at two or more times
