Reliability and Evaluating Conclusions Flashcards
What is precision?
The closeness of two or more measurements of the same sample.
What is accuracy?
How close your measurement is to the actual value.
How can variablity of data be shown?
Error bars or confidence intervals.
What is a statistically significant result?
One where the difference between groups is unlikely to be due to chance alone. If the error bars dont overlap there is a significant difference so it is not due to chance.
How is the strenght of a correlation judged?
By looking at the closeness of the individual data points to the line of best fit.
What should a conclusion refer to?
The aims, hypotheses and results of the study, as well as the validity and reliability and exsisting knowledge from previous studies.
