Believes
This word means the people of a faith - Christians are believers in God and Christ
Causes
This word is referring to something which makes something else happen. For example, one of the religious causes of poverty could be that it is all part of God’s plan which humans cannot understand.
Charity
This is giving money or time to help others;it can also mean an organisation which helps people in times of need. Examples of Christian charities are: CAFOD, Christian Aid, and tear fund.
Disease
This is another word for “illness” or “sickness” - it is when someone is unhealthy.
Gambling
This is when someone uses money to get more money such as buying a lottery ticket or using the machines in a casino. It can also refer to games such as poker or betting on horse race.
Immoral
This means doing the wrong thing - going against the moral code
Lending
This is when someone allows someone else to borrow money from them. Banks lend money to people but they charge “interest” - this this means you pay them back more than you actually borrowed.
Moral
This means doing the right thing - for a Christian it to s obeying the rules and teachings of God and Jesus.
Occupations
This usually refers tithe jobs/employment which people do.
Parables
These are the stories which Jesus told which Jesus told which contained a moral teaching. For instance the parable of the sheep and the goats tells of judgement day and how people will be judged on their actions to the poor and needy.
Poverty
This refers to the state of having little or no professions or wealth. There is relative poverty when you cannot afford all the luxuries you would like and there is absolute poverty when you have no basic things like shelter; food, etc.
Responses
When this word is used in the exam paper it is asking you to say what people would do in a certain situation.
Starving
This is when people have no money to buy food and so cannot eat or feed their family.
Stewardship
This is the word used for “looking after something”. Christians believe it is their duty to look after the world of God.
Tithing
This refers to giving one tenth of your income ( what you earn ) to the church.
