Releasing Energy / Respiration Flashcards
How do you test for carbon dioxide
Put a slightly small amount of lime water in a boiling tube (the lime water will be transparent at the time) then using a straw you continuously blow into the lime water and if it turns cloudy/milky there is CO2
What are the main gases in the atmosphere with their percentages
78% Nitrogen
21% Oxygen
0.04% Carbon Dioxide
What is the equation for aerobic respiration
Glucose (from the digestive system) + Oxygen (from the respiratory system) — Carbon Dioxide (exhaled waste product) + Water (+energy)
What does Respiration produce
Respiration produces ATP which can be broken down to release energy
What does ATP stand for
Adenosine Tri Phosphate
What is Adenosine Tri Phosphate
Adenosine Tri Phosphate is a complex organic chemical that provides energy to drive many processes in living cells.
