When can ‘que’ be used?
Must have something preceding it
When can ‘el que’ be used’?
Doesn’t need something before it, after a preposition (eg. with, from..), for clarification, in emphatic structures with the verb ser
When can ‘el cual’ be used?
Always has something preceding it, in oraciones explicativas can use preposition or not, in oraciones especificativas must goes after the preposition, it is needed in sentences where there is no conjugated verb and in oraciones explicativas it must go after the ‘quantifier + de’
When can ‘quien’ be used?
To refer to a person, but not a collective group
To mean the same as el que
Haber and tener are essential afterwards
When can ‘cuyo’ be used?
To express possession, always has something before it and it follows the noun
When can ‘donde, como, cuando’ be used?
To express time, place and manner
Comes after soemthing
In oraciones especificativas, when it come after the noun it means the same as el que.
Obligatory in oraciones explicativas or with a preceding adverb
Obligatory in emphatic sentences with ser
When can ‘cuanto’ be used?
To express quantity
Doesn’t follow anything but can if it is modifying a noun
