Relative Atomic And Formula Masses. Flashcards
What is relative atomic mass?
Relative atomic mass is the mean mass of an atom compared to a 1/12 the mass of a Carbon-12 atom.
What does a chemical formula tell you?
It tells you how many atoms there are in a unit of substance.
What is relative formula mass?
That is the mean mass of a unit of substance compared to a 1/12 of a Carbon-12 atom.
How do you work out RFM?
Count how many atoms of each element there are.
Multiply that number by each elementโs Ar (mass number on the Perioditic table).
Sum up all your totals.
Do you multiply these indices while working out RFM?
(O4)3
Yes, you would multiply them.
What is the symbol for RFM?
Mr.
What is the symbol for relative atomic mass?
Ar.
