Relationships & Families Flashcards

1
Q

Moral Dilemmas

A

It’s a choice where there are 2 options, but whichever one you choose, something bad will happen. ie a young man wants to save his some of his family members by giving his life up so doctors can use his organs to do so, but if you refuse he’ll have to risk it by having a back alley doctor do it instead. Do you let this young man give up his life to save his family members?

Christian Teachings about Sex

A

Marital - You should only have sex when you’re married
Unitive - Sex should bring the couple closer together
Procreative - All sex should open to the idea of a baby

This is why the Catholic church doesn’t support gay sex because it can’t be procreative, but they still support the LGBTQ+ community

Q

Sex Before Marriage

A

The Catholic church doesn’t like the idea of sex before marriage because the sex wouldn’t be as unitive as if the couple were married, and also it doesn’t fulfil their teachings about sex (Marital, Unitive & Procreative)

Other views say that people are allowed to have sex before marriage since it’s a way of showing their commitment to each other. Also people would use contraception because it lowers the chances of having a baby

Q

LGBTQ+

A

The Catholic Church supports the LGBTQ+ community as everyone is made how God wants us to be. However sex that’s not procreative (involving a penis and a vagina within marriage) is frowned upon, because this sex act would now only be for pleasure and wouldn’t be procreative

Other views show that loving relationships can take place outside of heterosexuality. Also the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t recognise gay marriage which means that LGBTQ+ can never be married and allowed to have sex under the eyes of the church

Q

Annulment

A

An annulment is NOT a divorce

It’s a statement from the Catholic Church saying there was no legitimate marriage in the first place. An example of when a couple can get an annulment is when they were forced to get married from their parents, or when one of the spouses had affairs before and during the marriage
