What is equity theory

A

Equity theory realises that the minimal principle is important in relationships but there is a further step that goes behind the minimal principle

In order for relationships to work, partners must be equitable

Explain equity theory

A

One partners benefits minus their cost should equal another partners benefits minus their costs

If one partner perceives a relationship as unfair ; they are going to be dissatisfied with it regardless of whether they are over benefitting or under benefitting

More benefits : feel guilt and shame
Under benefits : feel angry and resentful
