Relationships C3L3 Flashcards
Order of a food chain
TOP Carnivores Omnivores Herbivores Producers BOTTOM
Organisms that get energy from eating other organisms
Consumers
3 types of consumers
Herbivores
Omnivores
Carnivores
Organisms that make their own food using the energy in sunlight
Producers
Type of land producer
Plant or tree
Type of producer in water
Algae
Consumer type that only eats producers. Example - rabbits or deer
Herbivore
Consumer type that eats producers and consumers. Example - raccoons and bears.
Omnivores
Consumer type that eats herbivores and omnivores. Example - tigers, lions, Sharks.
Carnivores
Organisms that breakdown dead producers consumers and wastes. They recycle dead matter into simpler substances.
Decomposes
The model that shows how energy passes from one organism to another. Producers are at the bottom and consumers are at the top
Food chain
Example of a pond food chain.
Algae is the producer. Mayfly eats the algae. Sunfish eats the mayfly. Heron eats the sunfish.
This shows how all food chains in an ecosystem are connected.
Food web
This happens when organisms take part in more than one food chain. There is a struggle for food and water.
Competition
What if all types of consumers ate the same thing?
The least powerful ones would die out.
