atheist+ humanist allow contraception- chose when to have a family and sexual activity fine for humans
contraception:
islam (3f 1a) hadith, christian (2f ,2a)
christianity: object: catholic. bible says sex purpose of procreation- contraception stops. **children gift from god **can’t allow contraception. accept: sti prevention. Anglican- family planning, have children when you can afford to. induvidual decision
islam- hadith says contraception is Allah’s will but another hadith says if both partners should agree to use contraception, it is allowed allowed as families can’t afford family. only reversible allowed, not sterilisation.
marriage in the UK; statistics on marriage and divorce, why people dont marry, same sex marriage
number of marriages decreasing- more people have kids and cohabit, no marriage, but not same legal rights
same sex marriage legal
divorce more common as people want to be happy, religious people want to avoid divorce
christian attitudes on marriage (roman catholic, polygamy, adultery), same sex marriage (2f,2a)
marriage is important and holy.
marriage is a sacrement for roman catholic- pope says it is indispensible to society. accept cohabitation. faithfulness in marriage- no adultery 10 commandments. polygamy wrong (although there were church people that were polygamous)
divided over same-sex marriage:
against: bible- marriage is a union between a man and woman and can’t have children goes gainst Jesus comment to be fruitful and multiply earth (IVF + surrogates exists). for: don’t differentiate now. bible also says 2 flesh become 1; can be any gender
muslim attitudes to marriage (cohabitation, arranged, quote, adultery) , same sex marriage (2f,2a)
marriage is strongly recommended:
Allah’s will to marry the unmarried. cohabitation not accepted as it leads to sex before marriage. arranged marriages for some unmarried.. **hadith says marriage is half of a muslim’s faith. adultery “evil” and “hands whipped”.
**
same sex cotroversial:
muslim council of britain against same sex. can’t have children. forbidden in Qur’an. however, choice important and need to support those that are
divorce in christianity: (rc, anglican, jesus) and Islam (how to stop divorce, when divorce, remarriage)
ISLAM: divorce accepted but last resort:
reconcilliation important
sharia law allows women to divorce men if both are permitting but men can divorce women by saying i divorce you on 3 separate occasssions
free to re marry after divorce
divorce:
roman catholic; no divorce (as marriage vows are covenant) but marriage can be annulled (void) if couple never had sex or refused to have children
anglican- marriages can fail, so divorce and re marriage permitted. 2 unhappy people
jesus anti divorce ‘let no one separate’
