PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
Explain this quote:
1.” So God created Humankind in his mage, in his image of God he created them; male and female he created them, God blessed them, and God said to them’ Be fruitful and multiply.”
These verses show that both men and women are made in the image of God and are blessed by him, thus making them equal.
PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
Explain this quote:
“From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and gemale. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and to be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flash.’… Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate?
These verses shows that since the beginning of life, humans are destined to leave their family for the husband or wife. They do this to show their one love and flesh for eachother. Due to this, their bond is unbreakable and their love is unconditional.
PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
What does marital mean?
When two people are in love, they usually want to commit themselves fully and exclusively to each other. In the Catholic Church, this commitment is expressed through the sacrament of marriage. The couple make promises that they will be together for life and will accept children lovingly from God. The promises form the verbal commitment between the couple; this commitment is then consummated in the physical union of sex, in which the couple totally give themselves to each other.
PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
What does unitive mean?
Sexual love expresses and deepens the couple’s love for each other.
It is through the physical union of sex that the couple come closest to each other: ‘and the two shall become one flesh’ (Mark 10:8). They find fulfilment in each other and they enter a new phase of life as a couple. One of the main reasons why adultery is forbidden both in the Ten Commandments and by Church teaching is that it destroys the unity that is expressed in sex.
PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
What does procreative mean?
All life comes from God, but God acts through sex to create new life. The Church believes a couple that allow sex to be open to new life find there is much more intensity in their self-giving. One of the commitments accepted in the Catholic marriage ceremony is that the couple will accept children lovingly from God
PURPOSE & NATURE OF SEX:
What are some reasons for why someone might disagree with the church is?
- They may have health problems - therefore, not allowing them to have sex. Procreation can’t happen so the purpose of sex is gone. This means being procreative - can’t happen.
- They may not want to be restricted to one person so they might experience an open relationship or they might get bored and want a different experence, so it can’t be marital.
- They don’t want to be married - they might not want to be confined to one person or they don’t want/can’t have children - so they can’t live as a family in unity.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is the theology of the body and who made this doctrine?
In a series of talks during the first ten years of his reign as Pope, Pope John Paul II presented a view of the human body and the relationship between the sexes that some people believe gives new insights into traditional Catholic thinking about sexual relationships.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 1?
God loves each and every human being for his or her own sake.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 2?
People discover and express their dignity through the body; this includes their ability to think and to choose.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 3?
God created human beings as male and female. Both sexes have inherent dignity and value.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 4?
The full meaning of the body and the person can only be appreciated when there is a deep relationship with a member of the opposite sex. Pope John Paul called this ‘the nuptial meaning of the body’.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 5?
God established marriage to bring two people together as a form of communion of persons.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 6?
In sex, which is an essential aspect of marriage, the man and the woman give themselves to each other completely. In this self-giving, they discover who they are both as individuals and as a united couple.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 7?
Through sex, the couple show that they live for each other in mutual love and respect.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 8?
The body and marital sex are good. However, extramarital sex and the use of contraception damage the significance and role of sex.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 9?
Sin distorts God’s original plan for human beings. It makes people selfish and self-centred. Extramarital sex can stop sex from being a sign of total commitment and love, and instead it can become a form of exploitation for personal pleasure. In the case of adultery, it is also the breaking of a promise, so it becomes an issue of justice rather than just of sexual morality.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 10?
The way men and women are made shows that sexual intercourse leads to both greater intimacy and the possibility of creating new life. This means that there is an inseparable connection between these two functions.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 11?
Sex in marriage is a fulfilment of the love of the husband and wife. Rather than seeing each person as an object for personal pleasure, it enriches each partner as it is a sincere gift of love.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 12?
True mutual love includes responsible parenthood, and not having more children than the couple can lovingly provide for. The female body naturally has periods of fertility and of infertility. It is perfectly acceptable to make use of nature’s cycles to reduce the chances of pregnancy. At times it is more loving to express fondness through non-sexual acts.
THEOLOGY OF THE BODY:
What is idea 13?
The warning of Jesus -‘everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart’ (Matthew 5:28) - reminds all people that unfaithfulness starts in the mind. If people remain in control of their thoughts, they will not reduce other people to sex objects but will always value them as individuals who have great personal dignity and value.
