Conflict resolution
a process of resolving a dispute or disagreement
Compromise
involves finding agreement through communication and through a mutual acceptance of terms.
Assertiveness
is a behaviour characterised by the ability to express feelings, thoughts, and desires in a clear, logical, controlled manner
Boundaries
a physical or invisible limit, which often involves a sense of respect for another person’s personal space.
Abuse
is a general term for the use or treatment of something that causes some kind of harm
Equal
having the same privileges, status or rights as another person
Trust
when an individual believes another individual or feel safe disclosing private in formation to them.
Communication
the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information through speech, signals, writing or behaviour.
Respect
to regard highly or to show courteous regard for other people’s feelings, values and beliefs
Negotiation
a discussion intended to produce an agreement
Jealously
refers to the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that occur when a person believes a valued relation ship is being threatened by a rival.
Empathy
an important quality in relationships. Involves being able to envision how a situation would make someone else feel and seeing it from their perspective.
Support network
group of people or services an individual can access for guidance or advice.
Responsibility
expectations or duties an individual has to someone else
Ways to remain positive relationships
consider their thoughts, don’t be needy, respect others space, be responsible and reliable, communicate, put in effort, save time for yourself.
Developing equal and respectful relationships
- Boundaries and ground rules: mutual agreements keep both people happy, sense of direction and expectation
- Needs trust, respect, honesty, care, good communication skills, obedience to follow rules
Rights in relationships
speak your mind, be alone, be heard, have an opinion, need, want or value, to the truth, ask for help, refuse sex/ dates/ affection.
Exclusion and bullying
makes you question your self-worth – aren’t worthy of feeling happy or comfortable, done intentionally. Rights potentially violated in bullying:
- Your right to be free from mental, emotional and physical violence. Form of violence
- Your right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health
- Can cause depression, physical issues etc.
- Your right to survival and development
- Your right to education
- Your right to participate and be heard
- Your right to privacy
- Your right to work and have a safe workplace
Positive relationships
both or all parties feel safe, secure and respected. How people handle bad times and good times
Healthy dating
empowering and brings on feelings of love and happiness. Equitable balance of power. Don’t move too fast
Domestic violence
term used to define any abusive, aggressive, violent behaviour used in home or between family.

White ribbon: 1991, helps women who are victim to violence, 57 countries, established in 1893
Intimate relationships
close personal relationship = frequent interaction, emotional attachment with one another
- Confidential knowledge of each other
- Feel affection for one other
- Trust and respect one another
- Committed to the relationship and expect it to continue
To develop long healthy relationships, you need PATIENCE + COMMUNICATION + RESPECT
Must not be needy, controlling, suffocating, conditional, do not rely on the person to do specific things
