Q

Why is marriage important in Christianity?

A

Christians do not believe in having sex outside of a marriage. However, Christians believe that it is important to procreate. Therefore, you must get married to fulfil God’s order to humans to procreate. “Married love is ordered to the procreation and education of the offspring”.

What are different Christian beliefs about interfaith marriage?

A

Some Christians believe that you should “not be yoked together with unbelievers.” For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?”
Catholics accept interfaith marriage if the non-Catholic converts or is granted permission and agrees to be married in a Catholic church and have all children brought up as Catholic.
The Church of England accepts interfaith marriage as it is about the “consent to a lifelong union of love and fidelity…available to all men and women, regardless of faith”.

Some Christians thinks that “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another man, she commits adultery against her”. The same applies for men unto women.

Q

What are different Christian views about divorce and remarriage?

A

Catholics do not accept divorce/remarriage as marriage is a sacrament, as “what God has joined together, let man not separate”. Legal seperation is only allowed if a couple can no longer live with eachother, but are not allowed to remarry.
Non-Catholics think divorce is wrong but allow it if the marriage has broken down and a person must choose the “lesser of two evils”. A couple is allowed to have another chance at marriage as long as they are determined to make it work.

17
Q

What are different Christian views about same-sex marriage?

A

The Catholic Church do not accept same-sex marriage. “There are no grounds for consdering homosexual unions to be in any way similar to God’s plan for marriage.”
The Church of England do not accept same-sex marriage. “It is God’s purpose that a man and woman give themselves to eachother in love.”
The Quaker Church “celebrate and recognise marriages - for same-sex and for opposite-sex couples - with equal joy.”

18
Q

What are different Christian views about same-sex parenting?

A

The Catholic Church believe that “Children have a right to grow up in a family with a father and a mother capable of creating a suitable enviroment for the child’s development and emotional maturity.”
The Church of England believe that we should stop “focusing too much on desires and the supposed rights of adults to be able to have a child.”
The Quaker Church believe that “love can be given by parents, we see no reason why their gender or sexuality should stand in its way”.

19
Q

What are different Christian views about the role of women?

A

Some Christians believe that gender is irrelevant in worship, as long as you have faith in Jesus. Jesus said that you should not discriminate in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. “There is nor male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Other Christians “do not permit a women to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.”
In the Catholic Church, women can devote their lives to God, but not become a priest as one must be ordained to do so.
The Anglican Church allows women to be ordained and lead worship. Other Protestant denominations hold similar views about the role of women.

20
Q

What are different Christian views about contraception?

A

The Church of England agree with the use of contraception as children are more likely to be loved, the spread of STIs is limited, tackles overpopulation and ensures finanical stability. “The planning of the family should be agreed by the husband and wife.”
The Catholic Church do not agree with the use of contraception as sex is for procreation, human life is a gift and God told humans to “go forth and multiply”.
