DYNAMIC INTELLIGENCE

  • RDI is based on Gusteins concept of dynamic intelligence
  • this is the Ability to think flexibly and from others POV
  • RDI offers second chance by training caregivers to change patterns of interaction in everyday activities within the family
  • focus is on helping the child with ASD form personal relationships firstly in emotional bonds with their caregiver

OBJECTIVES

A
  • 1: emotional referencing: improving communication skills to help them understand how others feel so can share emotional experiences
  • 2: social coordination: controlling ones behvaiour to fit others emotions and developing ability to put on a happy face
  • 3: declarative language: developing comm that shows they are interested in something invite social interactions share emtions etc different from imperative language
  • 4: flexible thinking: ‘set shifting’ is ability to adapt quickly smoothly and calmly to situations
  • 5: relationship information processing: putting problems into a wider context and solving them with no obvious wrong or right answer problem is broad and could include controlling voice inside
  • 6: foresight and hindsight: putting both together helps ASD kids to predict future outcomes based on past experiences

RDI PROCESS

A
  • trained qualified and approved consultant works closely with family meeting once or twice a week to establish aims plan activities and evaluate progress it terms of the objectives
  • parents video some of their interactions for the consultant to asses and attend workshops and meet others using treatment
  • later point child is paired with another using RDI so can apply skills in different setting
  • small group is then formed
  • childs progress is monitored and interactions asses 6-12 months
