Reinforcement Flashcards
Positive Reinforcement
When a behavior is followed immediately by the presentation of a stimulus that increases the future frequency of the behavior in similar conditions
Positive Reinforcer
A stimulus whose presentation or onset functions as reinforcement
5 types of reinforcers
Edible, activity, tangible, social, sensory
Negative Reinforcement
When a behavior is followed immediately by the removal of a stimulus that increases the frequency of the behavior in similar conditions.
Negative Reinforcer
A stimulus whose termination increases the future likelihood of a behavior
Positive punishment
A behavior is followed immediately by the presentation of a stimulus that decreases the future frequency of a behavior
Negative Punishment
A behavior is followed immediately by the removal of a stimulus that decreases the future frequency of a behavior
Unconditioned Reinforcer
A stimulus change that can increase the future frequency of behavior without prior pairing with any other form of reinforcement. Ex: Food, water, warmth, sleep
Condition Reinforcer
A reinforcer who’s value must be learned
Premack Principle
A high-probability activity may serve as a positive reinforcer for a low probability activity
Non-contingent Reinforcement
Reinforcement delivered on a schedule independent of the occurrence of the target behavior or repsonse
Satiation
When a reinforcer loses its effectiveness due to overuse.
