A

Begin: 30-40% MIP- breaths against resistance @ resting RR & TV 5-15 min, 2-3x/d
——> progression: 40-60% MIP over 4-6 wk period

Inpatient aerobic exercise prescription

A

F:
1st 3 days: 3-4x/day
After 3 days: 2x/d c inc duration
I: RPE <13; post-infarct HR <120 bpm or <20 bpm above resting; post surgery: < 30 bpm
Mode: progressive supervised amb (2-3 METs) -> progress 3-4 METS
T: intermittent bouts 3-5 min -> progress 10-15 min cont

Aerobic outpatient prescription

A

F: 3-5 x/wk
I:
Low: [(HRmax-HRrest) x 40%] + HR rest
High: [(HRmax-HRrest) x 85%] + HR rest
Or : RPE initially 11-13 RPE max then later in therapy 14-16 RPE
*** ex THR >/ 10 bpm BELOW anginal threshold

Mode: large ms groups
T:
1st month: 15-20 min cont or intermittent
3-4 months (improvement stage): 25-30 min
6 months (maintain stage) 40 min +

A

I: 1 on claudication scale within 3-5 min, stop at 2 on scale & rest until symptoms subside

A

Post MI 70% HR max or 5 METS for 6 wk post-MI
Cardiac surgery: begin LE immediately, UE after 6-8 wk
Post-trancatheter procedure: 3wk post procedure; 2 wk supervised
Low resistance: 1 set x 10-15 reps, weight 50% 1 RM; light (1-5 lb) weights; RPE 11-13
