Regulation and Disinfection Flashcards
What is Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)?
Contains information compiled by the manufacturer about product safety, including the names of hazardous ingredients, safe handling and use procedures, precautions to reduce the risk of accidental harm and overexposure, and flammability warnings.
What are Disinfectants?
Chemical products that destroy all bacteria, fungi, and viruses (but not spores) on surfaces.
What is OSHA?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was created to regulate and enforce safety and health standards to protect employees in the workplace.
What are Laws?
Laws, also called statutes, are written by both federal and state legislatures that determine the scope of practice and that establish guidelines for regulatory agencies to make rules.
What are Rules?
Rules and regulations are more specific than laws. Rules are written by the regulatory agency or the state board, and they determine how the law must be applied. Rules establish specific standard of conducts and can be changed or updated frequently.
What is Environmental Protection Agency?
Registers all types of disinfectants sold and used in the U.S.
What is infection?
The invasion of body tissues by disease causing pathogens.
What are the two types of disinfectants used in salons?
Hospital disinfectants and Tuberculocidal disinfectants.
What are the four types of potentially harmful organisms?
Bacteria, Fungi, Viruses, and Parasites.
What three types of disinfectants must be used in salons?
Bactericidal, Virucidal, and Fungicidal.
What is Bacteria?
Bacteria are one called microorganisms that have both plant and animal characteristics.
What are the types of Bacteria?
Nonpathogenic and Pathogenic. Nonpathogenic bacteria are harmless organisms that may perform useful functions. Pathogenic bacteria are harmful microorganisms that can cause disease or infection in humans when they invade the body.
What are the classifications of pathogenic bacteria?
•Cocci -Staphylococci -Streptococci -Diplococci •Bacilli •Spirilla
What are the two distinct phases of the life cycle of bacterial?
The active stage and the inactive or spore-forming stage.
What is inflammation?
A condition in which the body reacts to injury, irritation, or infection. An inflammation is characterized by redness, heat, pain, and swelling.
