Why do we need the PC for?
- Interpreting, evaluating and implementing prescriptions of persons authorised by law to prescribe medications
- Compounding, labelling, dispensing, distributing and administering medication
- Initiating and modifying medication therapy in accordance with collaborative agreements
- Pt assessment and counselling for recommending and dispensing medications
- Managing medication therapy
- Evaluating medication use
- Manufacturing and distributing medicinal products
- Quality assurance of medicinal products
Purpose of CPE
Achieve professional self-improvement so as to protect the public from being harmed by professional incompetence
Done for the good of the country and society
How many CPE points are required for PC renewal (active)?
Break it down to pharm and non-pharm care programmes
50 points
30% must come from pharm care in 24 months preceding QP
Those on specialist register: 30% prerequisite from specialty branch
How many CPE points are required for PC renewal (inactive)?
20 CPE points in the 2 years preceding
mix of both pharm and non-pharm
1 CPE point is =
more than 1 hour but less than 2 hours
If the whole event is 8 hours, how many CPE points do you gather?

When does the Qualifying period start and end? How long?

When is the removal of names from the appropriate register required?
- Ordered to be removed under the provision of PRA
- Deceased
- Did not renew PC for a continuous period of not less than 5 years
- Obtained registration by fraud/incorrect statement or through error
- registration got withdrawn/suspended or cancelled by authority in country where he/she is registered
What to do if you want to restore your name for not renewing PC for 5 years or more?
- Pass exams (forensic exam and practice of pharmacy exam)
- Fulfill CPE requirements (25 points)
- Support of cert of good standing
- Cert by medical practitioner of F2P
Pharmacy Specialists Accreditation Board (PSAB) consists of
- Not less than 6 registered pharmacists
- Chairman and members appointed by Minister
- Up to 3-yr term, eligible for re-appointment
- May appoint committees to assist in its functions
- Quorum of 3 Board members at any meeting

- Determine qualification, experience and other conditions for specialists registration
- Define specialities in the practise of pharmacy
- Accredit training programmes to be recognised to qualify for specialists registration

- Recommend to Council programmes for CPE of specialist pharmacists
- Advise council on matters related to specialist registration
Who is eligible for specialist registration?
Fully registered pharmacist; holds a valid PC and is currently practising in SG
What should a pharmacist possess in order to become a specialist?
- A relevant postgrad qualification recognized by PSAB (PharmD NUS)
- A valid specialty certification (in existing 7 specialties)
- Has completed 1-year full-time residency training in broad-based pharmacotherapy recognized by PSAB AND 1-year full-time residency in the specialty applied for and recognized by PSAB
- Has accumulated 1 year of specialty practice experience in the specialty applied for (after residency), in the 3 years preceding application
What is the process for specialist registration?
Pharmacist submits application form w all required documents to PSAB, then SPC
PSAB: issue cert of eligibility for specialist reg
SPC: register applicant in the Register of specialists; issues specialist cert of registration in that branch of pharmacy
