This region is characterized by old eroded mountains extending from Canada to Alabama.
Appalachian Highlands
This region borders the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. It contains broad lowlands, large port cities, and excellent harbors.
Coastal Plain
This region is east of the Great Plains and contains rolling flatlands, many rivers, broad river valleys, and grassy hills.
Interior Lowlands
This region wraps around Hudson Bay like a horseshoe. It contains lots of lakes carved by glaciers and some of the oldest rock formations in North America.
Canadian Shield
Located in the center of the country, it contains grasslands that gradually increase in elevation as you move west.
Great Plains
Tall rugged mountains beginning in Alaska and stretching almost to Mexico. It also contains the Continental Divide which determines the directional flow of rivers.
Rocky Mountains
This contains isolated mountain ranges and varying elevations. Also contains Death Valley, the lowest point in North America
Basin and Range
Located along the Pacific Coast containing the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains with fertile valleys stretching from California to Canada
