regeneration Flashcards
title
An investigation into the success of urban regeneration in London’s Kings Cross
aim
to compare to neighbouring areas in North London to investigate the impact of urban change on people, the economy, and the environment
hypothesis
regeneration leads to social, economic, and environmental inmprovement
Explain quantitative method
land use survey
• Information recorded was factual, meaning I could record individually without risk of bias
• systematic sampling by observing every other shop. This eliminates bias and allows shops to be observed over a larger area.
• name of shop, what it sells, comparison or convenience goods, luxury or non-luxury, chain or independent
• recorded into table, to visually see results for each category
• same method in both locations to compare results
Explain qualitative method
environmental quality survey
• Stood in one area, so data was all relevant
• Observed a list of categories, such as maintenance, letter, congestion, greenery
• On a rating from one to 5 as a group to find an average
• Recorded into table to visually see the pattern
• Same method used in both locations to compare results
Identify and assess secondary data source
Streetcheck.co.uk - free website that collect data about housing, crime, environment, in a certain area
• government official database
• frequently updated
• All in one place
• however some pie charts can be misleading as different colours were used, despite comparing the same thing
Explain data presentation
Star diagram
• eight axis, octagonally shaped, going out radially, categorically scaled
• categories included…
• using data, each EQS rating was plotted onto the diagram and points were joined
• repeated other location onto the same graph for easy comparison
• two colours and a key for comparison
structure in 9 mark
to what extent did you reach a reliable conclusion
reiterate sesecici
• reiterate aim and main data collections
• sampling technique for location
• expand
• sampling technique for landuse survey
• expand
• counting people & traffic accuracies
• inaccuracies - bias, one day. “this will have reduced the validity…”
• conclusion - “as conclusions are based on our own results, we need to realise in spite of.. there were inaccuracies that would make conclusion not completely valid”
• if conclusion were to be more thorough, methods would need to be more robust
