What are the three limitations of the Clark-Fisher model?

  • based on western cultures so may not apply to all countries as they may not go through the industrial stage e.g. Japan
  • different parts of the country may be at different stages within the model

How does the type of employment affect someone’s life?

A
  • Life expectancy-poor health is associated with primary industry due to pollution, decreasing life expectancy. Also, higher paid jobs in tertiary and quaternary sectors allow people to have a better quality of life e.g. good diet.
  • Health-people who sit in offices may not be as active. Also stress and long hours in things such as law firms affect mental and physical health. Can also have psychological impacts such as the military
  • educational achievement-tertiary and quaternary allow progression within ranks and knowledge
