Why is migration taking place from Syria?

- The conflict in Syria continues to be by far the biggest driver of migration
- More than 1 million arrive by sea into Europe and then cross to the UK. Many die crossing the sea

What help has already been offered?

- The UK has already accepted about 1,000 refugees from Syria under the Vunerable Persons Resettlement Programme
- This has now been expanded as the UK have promised to take in 20,000

- Syrian men being exploited - cheap wages
- Desperate refugees have marched on EU cities in a plea for help - created tension
