Refractive Index Flashcards

1
Q

What is refraction caused by?

A

It is when waves change direction as they enter a different medium. Caused by the change in density of the mediums.

Q

How do you work out refractive index?

A

n=sin i/ sin r. I= ANGLE OF INCIDENCE, R=ANGLE OF REFRACTION

Q

What is critical angle?

A

When light hits a boundary at an angle above the critical it is refracted so much, the ray reflects inside the substance.
