Reflexes Flashcards
Define Reflexes
Specific, stereotyped motor responses to an adequate (appropriate) stimulus
What are the four components regarding reflexes?
- ) Receptor
- ) Afferent limb
- ) Efferent limb
- ) Effector organ
What does the receptor component entail?
Muscle spindles, GTO, encapsualted and free nerve endings
What does the afferent limb component entail?
Carries the impulse into the CNS (ie. Dorsal root fibers)
What does the efferent limb entail?
Carries the impulse for the response of the CNS (ie. Lower motor neurons (alpha motor neurons)
What does the Effector organ entail?
Skeletal muscles, glands
The patellar ligament or knee jerk demonstrates the principle of what? and can be thought to include a small amount of what?
Autogenic Facilitation
—Reciprocal inhibition
At a certain point of tension GTOs stimulate what?
AN inhibitory influence to the alpha motor neurons (that are driving the contracting muscle)
–This is autogenic hibition
Reciprocal facilitaiton involves what?
The antagonist muscle can be activated to facilitate release of tension
What reflux is assoicated with:
Autogenic Facilitation AND Reciprocal Inhibition?
Deep Tendon/Stretch Reflex
What reflux is assoicated with:
Autogenic Inhibition AND Reciprocal Facilitation?
GTO
Flexor Withdrawal Reflex and Crossed Extension reflex involve what?
More than just two neurons, Reciprical inhibition of antagonist or oppositing muscle must occur (opposite of what GTOs do)
