reflex arc Flashcards
in order reflex arc
Stimulus – receptor – sensory neuron – interneuron in spinal cord – motor neuron – effector - response
what is the stimulus
The stimulus is a change in the internal or external environment that triggers a response.
what is a receptor and examples
Receptors: groups of specialised cells that detect a change in environment (stimulus)
chemoreceptors, mechanoreceptors, photoreceptors and thermoreceptors
sensory neuron
carry the electrical impulse from the receptors to the CNS which is where the inter/relay neuron is
inter/relay neuron
take the electrical impulse from the sensory neuron and carry message through CNS back to PNS or the motor neuron
motor neuron
: takes electrical impulse from the inter/relay neuron to effector to issue a response.
effector
muscles, glands or organs that issue a response to the stimulus
