Reflective practice Flashcards
What is reflective practice?
A technique for learning from experience.
Summarised as:
- Things (experiences) that happen to a person
- The reflective processes that enable a person to learn from those experiences
- The action that results from the new perspectives that are taken
This is known as the ERA (experience-reflection-action) cycle. All three elements must be present for reflective practice to occur.
What is the Gibbs cycle ?
- Description - what happened?
- Feelings - what were you thinking/feeling?
- Evaluation - What was good/bad about the situation?
- Analysis - What sense can you make of the situation?
- Conclusion - what else could you have done?
- Action plan - What would you do if the situation arose again?
