Reflective Cycles. Flashcards
What is a reflective cycle?
Structured way of engaging in self reflection
Typically reflect upon your own experience and decide how to improve .
Why would you use a reflective cycle?
Sometimes it could be difficult to reflect on your own practice
Gives you a place to start
Helps engage in CPD
It can help separate negative feelings from the experience .
Reflective cycle: boud et al & kolb. Details.
First developed in 1985
He believed feelings can cloud our judgement when we look back and evaluate on our own actions .
This made him believe that we should attend to those feelings first separate from the issue .
Reflective cycle: boud et al & kolb.
Three stages of self reflection
1- behaviour/experience - behaviour and ideas( the actual experience)
2- attending to feelings -returning to the experience, attending to feelings and evaluating this experience.
3- change in behaviour next time -new perspectives on experiences, Changing behaviour readiness for application and commitment for action.

Stage three – abstract conceptualisation - why was it good or bad? And what would you change?
Stage four – active experimentation – trying out what you have learnt trying new strategies.
