reflection Flashcards
what is the law of reflection
i=r
what is reflection from a smooth surface called
specular reflection
what is reflection from a rough surface called
diffuse scattering
what is the imaginary line at 90° to the mirror called
the normal
what is the angle between the incident ray and the normal called
the angle of incidence
what is the angle between the reflected ray and the normal called
the angle of reflection
if two rays that are parallel are reflected at different angles will you see an image
no, you will not
Why do you see an image in the mirror
because the image is a virtual image, your brain uses the fact that light travels in straight lines to work out where the light appears to come from, this is where you see the image
why dont you see an image of yourself on a white wall
because its a rough surface so the incident rays get scattered, turning the image into just plain white
