MP= medical practitioner
- Optometrist or DO need to refer to an MP unless this condition is already known about by an MP
- re-referral required when you find something an MP are unaware about

When you refer to an MP you must:
- tell px they are being referred
- include written report of of provisional diagnosis
- inform MP immediately (if emergency)

What does the AOP suggest you do if a px does not want to be referred?
- tell them consequences
- give them referral letter if they change their mind

You not required to refer everything but you must:
- write why you are not referring
- advice given
- account of action
- inform GP if severe (like mod/severe MGD)
