Q

What is the NFPA 252, Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Door Assemblies?

A

Evaluates the ability of a door assembly to resist the passage of flame, heat, and gases. It establishes a time-endurance rating for the door assembly. After a fire-endurance test, a hose stream test determines if the door will stay within its frame when subject to a blasting fire hose.

Q

What is the NFPA 253 (ASTM E648)
Standard Method of Test for Critical Radiant Flux of Floor Covering Systems Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source?

A

Also called the flooring radiant panel test.

It tests a sample of carpet in the normal horizontal position. It measures the flame spread in a corridor or exit way during a fully developed fire in an adjacent space. The higher the number, the more resistant the material is to flame propagation.
