redshift/space Flashcards
what is redshift?
the wavelength is stretched so the light seems shfted towards the red part of the spectrum
what is the steady state theory?
a model where the universe is expanding
what is the big bang theory?
a moment where everything in the universe was densley packed and expanded
what is the order of planets from the sun?
mercury, venus, earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune, pluto (my very easy method just speeds up naming planets)
what is a nebula?
a star factory made of gas and dust
what is comet made of?
ice and rock
what is a meteor made of?
fire, rock
where is our solar system located?
milky way
what is a year of a planet?
how long it takes to orbit the sun
what is a day on a planet?
full spin along its axis
why do planets that are further away from sun take longer to orbit?
because there is more distance to cover
what is a greenhouse gas?
gases in the earths atmosphere that trap heat
what is an example of a low mass star?
our sun
what is a red supergiant?
an old star and the core contracts and gets hotter and smaller
what is a supernova?
