What is redemption?

A

A

A

What is the importance of Jesus’ death?

A
  • Fulfilled OT prophecies of Messiah
  • Jesus showed obedience and love to God the father (garden of gethsemane) as an example for all people to follow
  • restored relationship between God and humans (veil = no barrier between God and humans)
  • helped restore ‘cosmic order’ (order in the universe) - helped make creation perfect again

What is the importance of the Burial of Jesus?

A
  • Jesus ‘descended into hell’ and freed those who had died before him (Moses, Abraham etc.) - they rose up to heaven with him
  • Jesus promised that his people will follow where he has gone - so God is with people, even in death

What is the importance of Jesus’ resurrection?

A
  • Most important event in Christianity. Told in all four gospels
  • Jesus victorious over sin, suffering, and death. All people share in this
  • Life after death now possible (sin and death can be overcome)
  • Jesus’ followers didn’t recognise him as he had entered a new, different, perfect creation
  • “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are in your sins”

What is the importance of the ascension?

A
  • Jesus promised to send Holy Spirit to complete his work
  • Jesus instructed disciples to be his witness
  • Ascension shows Jesus is with the father, and that Christians will also be raised to heaven
  • Jesus told disciples he would return at the end of time

A
  • bible promises a victory celebration - everyone in heaven joining together for a meal when salvation is complete
  • mass is a chance to experience this ‘heavenly banquet’
  • mass therefore inspires us to work towards salvation every day (love, peace, forgiveness)
