Sore throat
systemic illness
*peritonsillar abscess
respiratory distress
stridor
trismus (can’t open jaw)
drooling
neck stiffness
hoarseness over 3 weeks
Chest infection
severe SOB at rest
Haemoptysis
blue lips or face
syncope
new confusion
difficult to rouse
reduced urine output
cough > 6w
hoarseness > 3w
loss of appetite
unexplained weight loss
night sweats
UTI
sepsis
frequency+haematuria but normal urinalysis –> malignancy
rigours, flu like, loin pain, high fever, nausea and vomiting –> pyelonephritis
pyuria –> appendicitis
tender prostate –> prostatitis
recurrence –> malignancy
Unwell child
A- obstruction, foreign body, stridor
B- chest recessions, nasal flaring, tracheal tug, grunt
C- colour, HR, cap refill, warm hands/ feet, urine
D- near state, drowsy, lethargic, floppy
E- rashes, bruises, trauma, ears, nose, throat, tummy, testes, GLUCOSE
Unwell child
(yellow flags)
temperature not settling with antipyretics
reduced fluid intake, feeding, output, vomiting
pale, dry lips+ mucous membranes
lack of interest, listless, inconsolable crying
Headaches
sudden onset severe - SAH
progressive or persistent with dramatic change
neck stiffness, photophobia
papilloedema
dizziness for stroke
Post-menopausal bleeds
*unexplained vaginal bleeding more than 12 months after menopause
Endometrial cancer
Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
gynaecological cancers except vulval
feeling full too quickly
bloating
abdo/ back pain
ovarian cancer
pelvic pain or pressure
ovarian and uterine cancer
itching, burning, pain of vulva with changes in colour
vulval cancer
Priapism
if ischaemic, medical emergency as can cause erectile dysfunction
Unilateral chronic rhinosinusitis
