What are the signs and symptoms of orbital/preseptal cellulitis?
Pain
Redness
Lid swelling
Otherwise well in preseptal
Orbital +
- Systemically unwell
- Diplopia, limitation in extra-ocular eye movements
- conjunctivitis/chemosis
- exophthalmos
- blurred vision
What can cause orbital/preseptal cellulitis?
Preseptal
- Lid cyst or insect bite
Orbital
- Sinusitis/dental infections
- Haematological spread
How is orbital/preseptal cellulitis managed?
Orbital
- IV Antibiotics
Preseptal
- Oral Antibiotics
- IV if worse
What is uveitis and what can cause it?
Inflammation in the eye
Iris, ciliary body/vitreous, retina/choroid/vessels
Panuveitis = multiple
Causes
- idiopathic
- associated with systemic disease (SLE, sarcoidosis)
- infection (TB, toxoplasma, syphilis, HSV, lymes, CMV
- masquerade syndromes
What is the treatment for uveitis?
Topical anti-inflammatories
Systemic steroids
Systemic immunosuppressants
