What is the first rule of the road?
- Keep well to the left
- unless you are about to overtake
- or turn right.
What are the other 6 rules of the road?
- Always be able to stop your vehicle well withing the distance from which you can see the road to be clear.
- Take special care when it is mostly, or rainy, when light is bad, or when roads are wet, slippery or otherwise dangerous.
- Go slowly on narrow or winding roads however familiar they are to you.
- The faster you are travelling the smaller is the margin of safety should an emergency arise, and more serious must be the result of the accident
- At nights alway drive within the limit of you lights. If you are dazzled by oncoming lights, slow down or even stop.
- Go slow in narrow roads or winding lanes, however familiar they may be to you.
When should you not overtake? (7)
(1) At a road junction,
(2) on a corner or bend
(3) on the brow of a hill
(4) at a pedestrian crossing
(5) on a humpback bridge
(6) where the road narrows, or
(7) where the road is divided with an unbroken white line.
When can you overtake on the left? (6)
(1) On a one way road,
(2) at a roundabout,
(3) when a driver in front gives a signal that he is about to turn left,
(4) passing a line of slow moving vehicles in order to clear a traffic congestion,
(5) turning left at cross-roads,
(6) on a four lane road.
After overtaking a vehicle what should you do before rejoining the line?
Check your rear view mirror.
When must you dip your lights? (9)
(1) On wet roads,
(2) in brightly lit areas,
(3) approaching an oncoming vehicle,
(4) travelling close behind a vehicle,
(5) approaching a police officer on point duty,

If you are held up at a road junction by a person regulating traffic and you turn left without getting a definite signal.
What is a slip road?
It is an entrance on the corner of a major interaction which allows vehicles turning left to filter without causing inconvenience to other vehicles crossing the interaction. This can be used on any light providing the way is clear.
What must you do if a police instructs you to drive in the opposite direction on a one way road?
I would obey His instructions.
What should you do if you are involved in an accident?
(1) Stop.
(2) If no policeman is on the scene give your name and address to the person having reasonable grounds to require these particulars. (3) Report the accident to the police within 24 hours, and produce your insurance certificate and driver’s licence.
What is a cul-de-sac?
It is a dead end road.
What is a dual carriageway?
It is two way road divided by a strip of land in the middle.
What is the meaning of a broken white line in the middle of the road?
In the case of a broken white line you can overtake providing it is safe.
What is a filter light?
It is a green arrow which appears indicating that you may go in the direction shown by the arrow disregarding whatever other lights may be showing.
What is a combined police stop signals?
It is the signal given by a point duty policeman to simultaneously stop vehicles approaching from in front and behind him.
What signal must you give when you are about to low down or stop?
(1) Extend you right arm down with the palm of the hand turned downwards, and
(2) move it slowly up and down keeping the keeping the wrist loose.
What is the correct sequence of the traffic lights?
(1) Red means Stop, red and amber also mean stop.
(2) Do not go until green is shown. Green means you may go on if the road is clear.
(3) Amber and stop at stopping. You may go if the Amber appears after you have crossed the stop line.
