Housing, Bedding, Pain, Positioning, Hygiene, Temperature, Physical therapy, mental stimulation/enrichment
Conditions adversely affecting recumbent patients
Chronic pain, Urine scald, Depression, Obesity, Decubitus ulcers
Layering bedding
Top: Wicking (Vetbed)
Middle: Absorbent (Puppy Pad)
Bottom: Supportive (Memory foam pad)
Clinical signs of hypostatic Pneumonia
Depressed demeanor
Lung sounds
Increased respiratory effort
Increased RR with shallow breaths
Face care - Nose
Keep clear of discharge
Face care - Mouth
Clear of food, excess saliva, rinse
Face care - Eyes
Lubricate if unconscious, bathe if conscious
Management of skin complications
Dermatitis can be cleaned with dilute chlorhex followed by drying and barrier cream
