Recruitment & Selection Process Flashcards
What Is Job Analysis?
A job analysis has to be conducted to identify whether a position is needed at all. The job analysis highlights the tasks, duties, skills and responsibilities associated with the vacancy. At this stage, the organisation might actually decide that the position is no longer required. During a recession, for example, organisations will look for ways of making cost savings.
What Is Job Description?
A job description outlines the jobs title, the location, tasks and the responsibilities that will be covered by the successful applicant. The job description also includes information on hours of work, rate of pay, holiday entitlement and any fringe benefits such as a company car.
What Is Person Specification?
A person specification describes the ‘ideal’ person for the job and lists of the qualifications, experience, skills and personal attributes that are desirable or essential for the successful applicant.
What Is The Difference Between Essential & Desirable?
An essential skill or quality means it’s something a business requires you to have, whereas a desirable skill or quality is something you can have, but it isn’t absolutely essential to have to be employed.
What Is A CV?
A CV – or Curriculum Vitae – is a summary of an employee’s career history. Applicants must present and disclose information about themselves that they wish the organisation to know.
What Is Short Listing?
Shortlisting is a critical stage in the recruitment process where employers identify candidates from the applicant pool who best meet the essential and desirable criteria for the job opening in question, and invite them to the next stage of the recruitment process.
Methods Of Assessment.
Methods of assessment in business include testing (assess the suitability for the vacant position the applicant is applying for), general ability tests (measures verbal, mathematical, reading and reasoning skills), specific ability tests (measures physical and mental abilities), attainment or proficiency tests (measures knowledges and/or skills i.e. knowledge tests, work-sample, performance tests), psychometric tests (assesses the applicants personality), medical tests (assesses whether or not there are medical conditions that could affect the applicants ability to perform), intelligence test (IQ tests that assess the mental capability of the applicant), physical fitness test (assess the physical fitness of the applicant), assessment centres (centres that ask applicants to attend for several days to allow them to observe applicants over a period of time. these centres ask for activities such as in-basket tests, leaderless discussion group tests and role-play exercises).
