what is a person specification?
refers to the type of person the organisation is looking for to fill the post
what does internal recruitment mean?
employing someone who is already in the workplace/business
what is external recruitment?
looking for someone who does not already work for the business
what are fridge benefits?
extra items given to employees whilst they work in the business
what are benefits to being motivated?
- good reputation
- motivated to work
- efficient
- high levels of staff retention
what are financial methods of motivation businesses use?
salary, wage, commission, profit share
what is a salary?
a fixed amount paid by an employer to the employee on a regular basis-usually monthly
what is a wage?
workers that are paid either weekly or monthly by the hour according to the time they have worked
what is a commission?
payment made to an employee based on the value of sales achieved over a specific period of time
what is a profit share?
staff will receive their usual hourly wage or salary but an additional payment on top due to the performance of the business
what are the non financial methods of motivation businesses use?
job enlargement, job enrichment, training, management style
what is job enlargement?
gives staff a greater variety of tastes to perform to make the work more interesting
what is job enrichment?
involves workers being given greater responsibility and a wider ranger of more complex and challenging tasks, making employees have an increased sense of achievement
what is training?
it motivates staff to do their existing job well for future references making employees feel more valued and loyal to the business
what are the two management styles?
autocratic and democratic
what is the autocratic management style?
employees are told what to do when and how to do it, they are not involved in decision making
what is the democratic management style?
it involves giving more freedom to workers and more say in decision making
