What is recruitment?
Finding and hiring the best qualified person for the job
It can be internal or external ( inside or outside of the business)
Seeking to hire the right person for a vacancy
Why does recruitment occur?
- if there is a job that needs to be filled
- if someone is planning on leaving
- with more people there are better ideas and more skills coming into the business
Process of recruitment?
- job recognise a vacancy
- job description
- person specification
- advertise
- interview
- shortlist
- appoint
Job description?
A document that the business draws up to consider the duties and status of a worker
Explains the work that needs to be done and typically set out the job title, location of work and main tasks of the employee
Person specification?
This is where a document is produced that considers the personality and qualities of the candidate
Lists individual qualities of the person required e.g. Qualifications, skills and experience
Positives of internal recruitment?
It involves appointing existing staff. A known person is recruited
- a positive is that its cheaper and quicker
- people are already familiar with the business and how it operates
- provides opportunities for promotion within the business-can be motivating
- business already knows the strengths and weaknesses of candidates
