Decision-making model
1) Collect information
2) assess the situation, threats and risks.
3) Consider department policy and available options.

Authority
Do personnel have the legal authority or mandate to act in a particular instance?
Reasonable
Would a reasonable officer act similarly under the totality of circumstances?
Necessary
Is the intended action required or needed based on circumstances?
Miranda advisement
You have the right to remain silent
Anything you say Cannon will be used against you in a court of law
You have the right to consult a lawyer prior to questioning and have the lawyer present during questioning
If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, a lawyer will be appointed to you represent you before any questioning if you request one
You can stop the interview and request to remain silent or request a lawyer at any time before or during questioning
The fourth amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable, searches, and seizures, shall not be violated and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized

4 Rules of firearm safety.
1) All weapons must be treated as if they are always loaded.
2) Never let the muzzle of a weapon point at anything you were not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until the sites are on the target and your repaired to shoot.
