Central nervous system stimulant –> increases neurotransmission

Blocks dopamine transporter –> allows dopamine to remain in the synaptic cleft –> euphoria and arousal
Ecstasy
Increases release and reduced reuptake of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine –> euphoria
Cannabis
Stimulates cannabinoid receptor type 1 and type 2 –> analgesic, sedative, simtulates appetite, reduces anxiety
LSD
Interacts with serotonin system –> perceptual disturbances
Alcohol
CNS depression via increases GABA effects
Tobacco
Acts on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain –> increases ach release and metabolism
