Record Types Flashcards
What is a record type?
Record types allow you to offer users different page layouts and picklist values for different business scenarios, based on their profiles.
Each object has a master record type, but you can create new ones.
What are the steps for creating a record type?
-
Create necessary page layouts
- Ensure picklist values are complete
-
Create record type with basic info
- Name
- Description
- Assign to profiles
- Select page layout for each profile
- Select picklist values for this record type (all profiles associated with this record type will see these options)
Set WHO can see it, then which layout (FIELDS), then which values PICKLISTS have.
Which objects have business processes?
- Opportunities
- Cases
- Solutions
- Leads
(They define a sort of workflow process for the object)
Found under Customize > Name of Object > Name of Process
For example: Under Opportunities, it is called “Sales Processes”. We don’t use these right now but to create a record type on this object we would have to create at least one.
What are the business process fields for each of these objects?
- Opportunities
- Cases
- Solutions
- Leads
- Opportunities - STAGE
- Cases - STATUS
- Solutions - STATUS
- Leads - LEAD STATUS
Can you create a record type on an object that does not have a business process setup?
Depends on the object. At least one business process must be setup for opportunities, cases, solutions, and leads before you can create a record type.
Found under Customize > Name of Object > Name of Process
For example: Under Opportunities, it is called “Sales Processes”. We don’t use these right now but to create a record type on this object we would have to create at least one.
Which objects require a business process BEFORE you can create a record type?
- Opportunities
- Cases
- Solutions
- Leads
What should your first step be BEFORE creating a business process?
Ensure that the master picklist for the field has all of the possible values you will need.
