A

the Freedmen’s Bureau. It provided food, clothing, fuel, and more than 4,000 schools. Colleges: Howard University in Washington D.C, Atlanta University, and Fisk University in Nashville.

A

the “Black Codes” restricted what former slaves cold do and the kinds of jobs they could take. (It seemed to the Northerners that the South was defying them)

What was Lincoln’s new plan called and what did it do?

A

Radical Reconstruction. They passed the Fourteenth Amendmant (adopted in 1868). It declared all persons born or naturalized in the US to be citizens. The Fifteenth Amendment was adopted in 1870 and deeclared no citizen could be denied the right to vote because of color or race.

What were the two groups that worked with the freedmen?

A

Carpetbaggers - Northerners who had moved South since the war. Scalawags - southerners who worked with northerns in recontruction governments. They wrote laws funding railroad construction, building public schools, and improving local government.
