Reconstruction
The Reconstruction Era redefined U.S. citizenship and the relationship between the federal government and state government had changed. This serves as the basis for the mid 20th century civil rights movement.
Gilded Age
The Gilded Age marks an era where the U.S. dealt with political problems like corruption and went through large changes in economy, technology, and government while increasing rapidly economically.
Progressive Era
This era involved the U.S. going through a lot of political reform and social activism with women fighting for more rights, families fighting for better educations for their children, and people wanting to solves the problems for corruption and industrialization.
World War I
World War I was the first global war that the U.S. took part of in 1914 - 1918. The U.S. would join the war to support the allies and help save autocracy and defend democracy.
The Roaring 20’s
During this ear, the U.S. would go through a moment of economic and lifestyle prosperity in the 1920’s. There would be economic growth and a lot of new cultures were introduced into the lifestyle. Jazz was also the introduction into the lifestyle.
The Great Depression
This era was where the country suffered economical depression. It was the worst depression ever experience since it began in the U.S. and then began to spread across the world. This was due to bank systems becoming weak and affecting others who needed money.
World War II
This second World War lasted from 1939 - 1945. The U.S. did not want to take part of the war when it first began. They eventually joined the war after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii since they wanted to expand, so they had to defend their land.
Cold War
The Cold War had lasted from 1945 - 1991. During that time, tension and competition had rose between U.S. and Communist USSR. This was due to threats of nuclear war and McCarthyism.
Post War Boom
After World War II had ended, the U.S. would go into the American Dream that lasted from 1950 - 1973. This included social conformity, suburban and automobile, baby boom, consumerism; TV.
New Frontier and Great Society
This era lasted from 1961 - 1969. The main focus was new leadership, bold ideas, prosperity; space race Johnson’s Great Society - social welfare, civil rights.
Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement lasted from 1954 - 1968. It focuses on nonviolent protest and making new rights for the U.S. These included voting rights, desegregation; federal support vs state’s resistance; Black Power movement and urban riots.
Vietnam War Years
The war had lasted from 1955 - 1975. It focuses on the Domino theory, which would contain Communism War divides the country - campus protest, draft resistance.
Era of Social Change
This era had lasted from 1960 - 1975. The era focused on women, Latinos, and Native Americans seeking equality; Hippie counter culture; “do your own thing.”
1970s
This decade involved inflation, energy crisis, and environmentalism.
1980s
This decade involved political conservatism and federal deficit.
