What was Reconstruction?
The task of rebuilding the former Confederate states and readmitting them to the Union was called Reconstruction
Describe Abraham Lincoln’s Ten Percent Plan?
Lincoln’s plan required voters in each Southern state to take an oath of loyalty to the Union.
Why were the Radical Republicans considered “radical?”
Because they had more of a radical approach towards construction
Define freedmen.
A freedman was a former slave who is now free and no one owns him.
What did the Freedmen’s Bureau do? (List 3)
The Freedmen’s Bureau provided food, clothing, and medical care to poor Southerners, especially those freed from slavery.
Who was John Wilkes Booth?
John Wilkes booth is the person who shot Lincoln in the head.
Who was Andrew Johnson?
Andrew was the vice president because of Lincoln’s death, Andrew Johnson is now the President.
Describe Johnson’s Reconstruction Plan
His Reconstruction plan gave amnesty to most Southerners who swore loyalty to the Union. However, high-ranking Confederates could receive pardons only by appealing to the president.

It abolished slavery
What were black codes?
The black codes were laws in the South that were meant of control freedmen.
What did the Civil Rights Act of 1866 do?
It classifies freedmen as citizens.
What were two main goals of the Radical Republicans in their approach to Reconstruction?
The two main goals was to gain rights for slaves and punish the Confederate leader.
What did the 14th Amendment do?
It protected African American citizenship.

Why did Congress impeach President Johnson?
Tensions between Johnson and the Radical Republicans continued to grow. In August 1867, while Congress was not in session, Johnson suspended Stanton—temporarily stopped him from working— without the Senate’s approval. When the Senate met again, it refused to approve the suspension. Johnson then fired Stanton. This action deliberately violated the Tenure of Office Act. Johnson also appointed people the Radical Republicans opposed to command some of the military districts in the South.
What did the 15th amendment do?
This amendment guaranteed that state and federal governments could not deny the right to vote to any male citizen because of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”
Who did southerners refer to as scalawags?
Southerners who back the reconstruction plan rather than opposing it
Who were the carpetbaggers?
Carpetbagger was the pejorative term applied to Northerners who moved to the South after the Civil War, specifically those who joined state Republican parties formed in 1867 and who were elected as Republicans to public office.
Who were the Ku Klux Klan (KKK)?
A hate group that were against slave rights and color people. They thought that the Southerners left them and they were mad.
What was sharecropping?
sharecropping is a system of agriculture in which a landowner allows a tenant to use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their portion of land.

Exodusters was a wave of African Americans came to Kansas from the Deep South.
Where did most African Americans live during Reconstruction?
Most African Americans lived in the South.
Who was Benjamin “Pap” Singleton?
He was a man who encouraged African Americans to move to Kansas.
