Domaine Tabordet - Pouilly-Fumé “Champs des Chaumes” 2021

A

This dry white wine gives pride of place to Sauvignon. It has a beautiful golden yellow colour. On the nose, we discover an intense aromatic bouquet brought by the Sauvignon. Citrus and white fruit notes mingle. On the palate the wine is well balanced, with aromas of citrus, apricot and peach. It is a fresh and tangy wine perfect for an aperitif or to accompany fish and white meats. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
In the village of Verdigny, Domaine Tabordet was formed from 4.5 hectares of vines in the 1960s by Raymond Tabordet. Later passed onto his two sons, Yvon and Pascal in 1981 the estate began to expand to the appellation of Pouilly-Fumé. Today Marius Tabordet, along with his cousin Gaël operates the domaine under the guidance of Pascal. Marius monitors the vines, performs the vinification, and bring to life the signature of Tabordet within their expanding domaine of 16 hectares in Pouilly-Fume and 5 hectares in Sancerre.

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2022 NZ- Marlborough

A

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc has a zesty and vibrant nose, with notes of juicy citrus and makrut lime underpinned by subtle white nectarine and passionfruit notes. The palate is mouthwatering, with ripe vibrant passionfruit and citrus at the fore. These meld with tropical hints of peach and guava, gently balanced by stony saline notes.
World famous. Cloudy Bay is most well known as a benchmark producer for, and the world-pioneer of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first five wine makers to venture into Marlborough. At the time, it was almost an unimaginable place to set-up a vineyard. But Cloudy Bay’s founder - David Hohnen - was convinced of its potential to produce great wine and invested in the best land of the region. Since then, Marlborough has risen to become New Zealand’s leading wine region, as well as one of the finest winemaking locations in the world.

DOMAINE LEFLAIVE Puligny-Montrachet 2020

A

The Leflaive family has been in Burgundy since 1717 and began to take shape as a Domaine in the early 1900s under the leadership of Claude Leflaive. The Domaine gained its prominence in the hands of Anne-Claude Leflaive, who converted the vineyards to biodynamics in the 1990s giving the wines greater transparency in their expression of terroir.

The Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet comes from seven parcels within the village. The wines are gently pressed and settled before fermentation and maturation in oak barrels, of which only eighteen percent are new. This village Cuvee presents with crisp fruit and firm texture just polished by the hint of oak and firm minerality.

Smoky aromas of petrol, citrus confit and spicy pear.
PALATE
Racy, elegant and more refined medium-weight flavours that are at once fine but dense, all wrapped in a solidly lengthy and beautifully well-balanced finale.

2022 Mayacamas vineyards Chardonnay
MT. VEEDER, NAPA VALLEY

A

The 2022 was harvested by hand in mid-August, cluster sorted, whole cluster pressed (95%), and crush press (5%). Fermentation was composed in neutral French oak 225L/228L (60%), 500L Puncheon (30%), 1,000 foudre (5%) and lastly, 1,000L neutral Austrian oak foudre (5%).
The wine opens with lifted aromatics, tones of chamomile, yuzu, and marzipan. Compact, focused, and layered on the palate with lemon-grass supported by a lovely fruit set of tangerine, white peach, and Bartlett pear. On the palate there is plenty of drive and energy. Secondary flavors of bergamot, and green cardamom round out the mid-palate. The finish is long with lingering notes of orchard fruit, flint rock and salinity.
“Mayacamas Vineyards is one of the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon producers in the history of California. For those who long for great red wines that cellar with conviction and evolve in the course of time into brilliantly complex and compelling wines, Mayacamas Vineyards remains one of the brightest stars in the constellation of California wine. It is arguably the last man standing from the glory days of California’s past.”- John Gilman

At the crest of Mount Veeder, a sinuous appellation that clings to the Mayacamas Mountains’ southern reaches, rests Mayacamas Vineyards – as it has for over a century. Here, at 2,400 feet, above the din of Napa’s valley floor, fifty acres of vines quietly speak to both an unshakeable past and a fortitude for the future. Their fruit find its voice in a stone cellar built in 1889, and, when bottled, it shares with us a story of humility and commitment – unadorned, with concentration, elegance, and balance.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 2020 SLV
Cabernet Sauvignon

A

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is a Napa Valley first-growth estate that encapsulates the rich history of Stags Leap District and Napa Valley’s ascent to global wine recognition. It was the historic achievement at the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting, in which the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the highest honor in red wines above First Growth Bordeaux Chateaux, that portended the illustrious fate of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and solidified Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars as a worldly icon in wine.

S.L.V., also known as Stag’s Leap Vineyards, is the winery’s first vineyard. Today, this vineyard continues to produce wines with layers of complexity, spicy intensity and excellent structure. In 1976, the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the famous Judgment of Paris blind tasting. And so the legacy continues…

VINTAGE
A dry and hot growing season, coupled with a global pandemic, and multiple wildfires made 2020 a year we won’t forget. Rain right at bloom interrupted fruit set and provided a “natural fruit thinning” that brought the crop in balance relative to the dry soil conditions. The warm weather this vintage produced wines with a riper character. We are very pleased with the resulting wines from the 2020 vintage (although there won’t be as many bottles) to carry our legacy forward.

TASTING NOTES
The 2020 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon offers generous aromas of black fruit, cocoa, blackberry jam, ripe plum and baking spice. Integrated fruit and oak flavors meld on the palate with rich, polished tannins. The tannin structure, dark fruit, and pleasing minerality point to this wine’s ability to age.

FOOD PAIRINGS
Enjoy with Steak Diane, Grilled Hangar Steak with Chimichurri, Duck Confit with Roasted Figs and Polenta or Mushroom Ravioli with Arrabiata Sauce.

Château Chasse-Spleen

A

The wine is typically a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and matured in oak barriques (40% new) for 18 months and bottled unfiltered. Chasse-Spleen wines are typically deeply-coloured and full-bodied, displaying oodles of ripe, black fruit, mineral and sometimes hints of chocolate.

Notes of cassis and blackberry fruit with aromas of pencil shaving, cedar and hints of smoke. Supple in texture with taut structure, finishing with restrained elegance, freshness and juicy tannins.

2019 ROCKFORD RIFLE RANGE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, BAROSSA VALLEY

A

Rifle Range Road which runs parallel to Krondorf Road, is in the heart of the Valley Floor and winds its way up the hills to Kaiser Stuhl National Park. The old rifle range is long gone, but the farming land and vineyards that have always been part of the landscape are still there. Because most of Rockford’s Cabernet Sauvignon comes from vineyards adjacent to Rifle Range Road, it seemed the most appropriate name for this wine which has been part of Rockford since the very beginning.

Classic RR. Plum, milk chocolate, a rosy perfume, subtle toasty oak, a smattering of dried herb and roast red capsicum. Medium-bodied, supple and charming, with light grainy tannin, some black olive, and an even finish that carries gentle floral perfume, and a clip of drying tannin and salinity. A good release, albeit a little more rugged and savoury than some of them. Very nice
Although the wine shows typical varietal and regional characteristics, it also has the Rockford philosophy at its core – a rich, soft and full flavoured wine made using traditional winemaking techniques and attitudes. Aging the wine in large, seasoned oak vats (4500 litres) and hogsheads (300 litres) for two years has allowed the wine to consolidate flavours and colour, while softening tannins.

2020 Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey Chambertin La Justice

A

The Roy family has been cultivating grapes for four generations and in 1982, they began bottling their own production to fulfil their passion. With much effort and an acute focus on further enhancing their wines, Marc and his daughter Alexandrine bought a few more blocks of vineyards to increase the size of the Domaine to four hectares. In 2003, Alexandrine took over the Domaine with the intent on further raising the bar. Gradually, she reduced the yields, to produce fewer but better grapes with greater concentration of flavour. The vineyards are grown organically, strictly maintained, with great attention to detail.

The Domaine is composed of 3.5 hectares of Pinot Noir for four different cuvées. ‘La Justice’ cuvée – named after its climat that Alexandrine bought in 2010 – produced its first vintage as recently as 2011. La Justice is located in the northeast part of Gevrey-Chambertin. The most recently released vintages of La Justice and Clos Prieur are so exceptionally made, that most wine critics consider them to be of a Premier Cru standard.

An interesting and equally fresh and ripe nose combines notes of black fruit coulis, kirsch, violet and a floral whiff. The delicious, vibrant and more refined medium weight flavors possess an attractive texture thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins on the slightly more complex and sneaky long finale. This too offers very fine quality for its level. Drink from 2026+.

2023 Pinot Noir Meadowbank

A

High in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, hidden at the end of a winding dirt road, lies a place that is shimmering with life. Playing witness each year to a dance-like ritual between warm days and cool nights, Meadowbank produces fruit of a near ethereal quality – a quality that almost never was.

For when Gerald Ellis started planting vines on his sheep farm in 1976, conventional wisdom said you couldn’t grow grapes in the cold wilderness of southern Tasmania. Too wild, too unpredictable, too ‘at the edge of the world’ – “it can’t be done“. They would have been right, except for the fact that he did.

Think flavour, finesse and even more flavour! This wine has everything you could want from a pinot. It’s smooth, silky and elegant on the palate, with a mouth-watering hit of freshness that makes you thirsty for more. The vibrant strawberry and cherry aromas erupt from the glass, as the complex layers of flavour continue to reveal themselves long after the first sip. All of this is beautifully balanced with an earthy minerality that speaks volumes about the cold and slightly wild conditions that sweep through our hidden valley.
Food wise, this wine is super versatile. Tastes great alongside cheese, red meat, slow cooked stews or anything made from mushrooms. For us, we’re all about pairing this with venison. Pinot reminds us of time spent with our cousins up in the Tassie highlands, eating ‘just-seared’ venison backstrap with potatoes, jerusaleum artichokes, and of course healthy glasses of Pinot.

2021 Kongsgaard The Judge Chardonnay

A

From the 6-acre original planting with some vines going back to the 1970s, this gnarly old vineyard miraculously gives us a wine completely unique in the world. It’s like a riddle: how can a wine be so sublimely subtle and so unbelievably intense at the same time? The Judge (John’s father) would have been 101 this year.
Fifth generation Napa natives, John and Maggy began the Kongsgaard wine endeavor planting the Judge vineyard to Chardonnay in the 1970s on family land in the hills east of Napa. 1996 was the inaugural vintage. Our son Alex and Evan Frazier, both winemakers, joined the partnership a decade later. Our production, limited to what Alex, Evan and John can make with their own hands, is primarily our two Chardonnays–The Judge and the Napa Valley bottling. We also make small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, and minuscule amounts of Viognier, Sauvignon blanc, and Albariño in our cave on the eastern rim of Napa Valley. Our intensely farmed, shy-bearing vineyards and our archaic, low-intervention winemaking produce powerful, graceful wines–vivid expressions of vineyard and variety.
