by buying a smaller amount than what was paid for

The cadet will recall rules for collecting narcotic or drug substances, to include:
♦ Do not taste any material suspected of being a controlled substance
♦ Do not smell any material suspected of being a controlled substance
♦ Do not handle controlled substances more than absolutely necessary – Wash hands thoroughly as soon as possible after handling – Use rubber gloves
♦ Use specially trained clandestine laboratory drug teams when searching a possible drug lab

The cadet will recall rules for collecting narcotic or drug substances, to include:
♦ Use care when searching illicit narcotic or drug scenes to avoid being pricked by hypodermic needles – If skin is punctured, wash the area with soap and water, get medical attention, and report the exposure♦ Packaging of controlled substances
• It is an acceptable practice to package a dry powder substance in a plastic container or bag
• Most marijuana is dry and can be packaged in plastic, however if any of the plant is wet or fresh, it will mold in a plastic bag and potentially destroy the evidentiary value
• Mark weight and suspected drug content
♦ Chain of custody considerations
♦ An example of a chain of custody would be:
Suspect to officer, (listing the date, location and time); officer to evidence locker; evidence locker to crime lab for testing

The cadet will recall the minimal procedures to be taken to ensure the safety of suspects, citizens, and officers alike when a clandestine laboratory is seized.
♦ Securing the scene to include:
• Leave scene as you find it and allow experts to determine what to turn on or off
• Look for any devices used as defensive protection, i.e. booby traps
• Safely clear the lab of any people until a lab specialist arrives
♦ Evacuation of the neighboring area
♦ Summon trained clandestine lab personnel to the area
♦ Have a trained and recognized clandestine laboratory team collect and fingerprint samples and package the evidence from any drug lab
♦ Advise all responding personnel of the immediate dangers involved with a clandestine lab

assignments, to include:

The cadet will identify the location of the Controlled Substances Act in the Utah Criminal Code along with the various sections and penalties, to include:
♦ UCA 58-37-8
• Penalties
UCA 58-37-8(1)(a) and (b)
o Possession of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, and PCP
for distribution is a second degree felony
UCA 58-37-8(2)(a) and (b)
o Mere possession for personal use of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, and PCP is a third degree felony
UCA 58-37-8(2)(b) and (d)
o Amount of marijuana in possession determines the penalty assigned
