Receptors & Neurones Flashcards
1
Q
How does a receptor detect a stimulus and cause an effect?
A
stimulus connects to receptor which connects to sensory
neuron which connects to relay neuron to motor neuron then effecor
which then brings a response
2
Q
What is the order of receptor detecting stimulus?
A
stimulus - receptor - sensory neuron - relay neuron - motor neuron - effector
3
Q
What is a receptor?
A
- is specific - will only detect one type of stimulus
- is a cell or protein
- transform stimulus into an electrical nerve impulse
4
Q
What is the sensory neuron?
A
- single long dendron
- has a single short axon
5
Q
What is a relay neuron?
A
- within CNS
- many short dendrons
- many short axons - which are connectors
6
Q
What is a motor neurons?
A
- many short dendrites
- single long axon
- ends with neuromascular junction
7
Q
What is a effector?
A
- muscle
- gland
