Receptors Flashcards
1
Q
What receptor detects pressure?
A
Pacinian Corpuscle.
2
Q
Describe what happens at the Pacinian Corpuscle when there is an increased pressure.
A
When there is pressure, the lamella are deformed and press on the sensory nerve ending. This causes the sensory neurone cell membrane to stretch, deforming the stretch-mediated sodium ion channels so they open. There is an influx of sodium ions via facilitated diffusion which changes the potential of the membrane. If threshold is reached, an action potential occurs.
3
Q
What receptors detect light and what are the 2 types?
A
Photoreceptors and rod / cone cells.
