recall test Flashcards
operant behavior
under voluntary control and operates on the environment
operant conditioning
increasing or decreasing a behaviors frequency depending on the consequences for emitting that behavior
a learning process that uses reinforcement or punishment to modify voluntary behaviors
generalized conditioned reinforcer
reinforcer that has been paired with more than one already established reinforcer
premack principle
the opportunity to perform a more probable (or higher frequency) behavior is made contingent upon the performance of a less probable (or lower frequency) behavior, the probability (or frequency) of the latter should increase
aka:
any high frequency behavior (in which an animal engages in freely) can be a reinforcing behavior for any low frequency behavior
DRO
differential reinforcement of other behavior: reinforcing any behavior other than the undesirable behavior
DRI
differential reinforcement of incompatible behavior: reinforcing a behavior that cannot physically be performed at the same time as the undesirable behavior
DRA
differential reinforcement of alternative behavior: reinforcing behavior that serves as a desirable alternative (serving the same purpose) for the undesirable behavior
classical conditioning
a learning process that associates a neutral stimulus with a stimulus that produces a natural response
four contingencies of operant conditioning
function:
1) increase behavior
2) decrease behavior
operation:
1) addition
2) subtraction
positive reinforcement
adding/increasing a pleasant stimulus
(e.g. providing fish to an animal for successfully completing a behavior asked of them)
negative reinforcement
removal/decrease of an aversive stimulus
(e.g. taking away a net once an animal swims into the med pool)
positive punishment
addition/increase of an aversive stimulus
(e.g. adding a net to the water when an animal will not swim through a gate)
negative punishment
removal/decrease of a pleasant stimulus
(e.g. a trainer steps up from session because the animal egressed on them)
